It has changed my life and happiness and I hope that it will empower you to change yours.
The Work is a simple (not necessarily easy) way to question one’s stressful thoughts. I find that those thoughts have less power over me after the Work.
Simply a method of questioning your stressful thoughts.
With a Judge Your Neighbor Worksheet in had, we begin. Sit quietly, remember a time that made you angry, sad, frustrated. Get clear where you are, the time of day, and who or what is making you angry. Next finish the sentence I am angry(or other emotion) ________ because ________________ . This sentence becomes the first on the Judge Your Neighbor Worksheet (JYN). Referring to this statement the rest of the worksheet is filled in.
To each of these thoughts we apply the questions:
1. Is it true? (yes or no)
2. Can you absolutely know that it is true? (y/n)
3. How do you react when you believe the thought?
4. Who would you be without the thought?
Then we turn the thought around.
If my thought is ‘She is trying to push me out.’
I would turn it to ‘I am trying to push me out.’
‘I am trying to push her out’ and ‘She is not trying to push me out.’ For each of these I would try to find three examples of how this is or might be true.
